Cottage style windows beautifully crafted from timber have recently been installed in a charming period property in an idyllic rural location in Reading.

Upon recommendation, The Reading homeowners called our office just before the UK went into COVID19 lockdown in early March; they wanted a free no-obligation quote to replace five windows at the front of the house.

Over the years the existing windows were slowly deteriorating beyond repair and were difficult to open. They regularly suffered from condensation requiring continuous maintenance, and the seals were defective and becoming draughty, so the time had come for modern replacement windows.

The client’s property is located in a desirable area of natural countryside beauty in the village of Bucklebury. Although the period property dates back to 1820, there are no restrictions to any modifications. They were keen to have a heritage style of double-glazed windows with all the period features but with the comfort of modern benefits and performance.

Our designer Ray contacted the property owners and arranged an appointment at our Bracknell Showroom. After an initial one to one consultation to discuss window styles, material and glazing options. They felt that installing white uPVC windows would alter the appearance and value of the property.

They also discussed the option of a timber alternative, but they felt it was important to have replacement windows made from sustainable timber. After much contemplation, they decided that our hardwood timber flush casement windows in a cottage style were the most suitable for the property.

The cottage-style windows are manufactured with warp-resistant engineered multi-layered Meranti hardwood and factory-finished with a low maintenance micro-porous paint.

These windows also benefit from energy-efficient from A-rated argon gas filled double glazing with Low e glazing and exceptional thermal and acoustic performance.

We carefully designed and manufactured authentic timber windows with astragal bars to ensure that the beautiful period features of this Reading home were preserved.

The clients chose a pure white finish in RAL9010 for both the interior and exterior and black wrought iron monkey tail handles to complete the traditional look.

The installation team arrived at The Reading property at the end of June and took two days to install all of the cottage style windows. They took time to discuss the sequence of the fitting with the client and ensure all social distancing and government guidelines were adhered to including the use of PPE and took a great deal of care when removing the existing windows not to damage the internal decoration and the external render.

Our client is delighted with how the timber cottage style windows have restored their beautiful period property to its former glory.
