Location: Reading
This beautiful detached Victorian house has been transformed with double glazed cream box sash windows at the front of the property in Reading.
The property is situated on a desirable residential road, in the sought after village of Caversham, close to Reading University.
The Reading homeowners visited our Bracknell showroom to view our range of sliding sash windows we had on display.
They met with our designer Ray Money, who talked through the benefits of each of the range from uPVC, timber and timber alternative.
The existing single glazed wooden windows in the Reading property had been regularly maintained by the homeowners but were not energy efficient as they were losing heat and very draughty.
The homeowners were keen to retain the character and ornate features of the Victorian era, so our designer worked with them to find a cost-effective glazing solution.
The clients decided beautiful factory-finished engineered timber box sash windows in European Redwood timber was the perfect glazing solution for the front elevation.
Evolution timber alternative Storm casement windows for the kitchen and uPVC sliding sash windows for the landing and top floor loft windows hidden from the front elevation view. All the double-glazed windows are finished in cream RAL9001 on the exterior and interior.
The timber alternative and uPVC with a wood grain finish replicate the authentic timber box sash windows’ look and proportions.
Our designer Ray paid close attention to the box sash windows’ overall design and period features, from the deep bottom rail to the Georgian bars. He also requested the window board nosings to go past the architraves and leave a neat sash horn detail and that they were factory finished in the same cream RAL9001.
The timber-framed box sash windows have been designed with concealed spiral balances; these are a great cost-effective system to the traditional weights & pulleys and slide & tilt options.
Combining modern technology with period charm, spiral balanced box sash windows are easy to open and close with a hidden spiral rod torsion and tension spring mechanism. Our client chose a combination of window furniture and enhanced Secured by Design security features.
For the timber alternative casement windows in the kitchen, they chose antique black window handles.
For the timber sliding sash windows, they decided on chrome ironmongery, traditional sash lifts and ring pulls, angel restrictors for safety and ball claw fittings to add an increased security level to the Reading property.
The traditional box sash windows have thin double-glazed units with warm edge spacer bars filled with argon for superb thermal and acoustic performance.
The cream box sash windows compliment the Flemish bond brickwork and emphasise the traditional Victorian aesthetics of the Reading property.
