Location: Windlesham
The three sets of white uPVC French doors we installed into a Georgian townhouse extension in Windlesham was part of an architectural glazing solution for a modern Orangery at the rear of the property.
The Georgian townhouse is located in a highly sought after gated development within the picturesque village of Windlesham.
The Windlesham homeowners were existing customers to Thames Valley Windows as we had installed double glazed sliding sash windows to their family home in 2007!.
We are proud of the quality of our products and love to see our customers enjoy their new window and door installations. We were delighted that the Windlesham homeowners decided to return to us to design and install a contemporary Orangery to modernise their family residence by extending the living space in their home.
Part of the client’s brief was that they wanted a traditional Orangery that was timeless in style with the commodities of energy-efficient modern living with a seamless blend of indoor and outdoor living and natural light to fill the room.
The patio door design was an essential factor, and the homeowners were unsure of the type of patio doors they wanted for the Orangery. They could not decide between sliding patio doors or aluminium French doors?
After visiting our Bracknell showroom and seeing the quality of our uPVC products, they decided on uPVC French doors finished with a wood grain effect.
Our architectural designer worked closely with the homeowners to understand their project vision and requirements and their homes current layout. He also assisted with the planning approval on behalf of the clients.
As part of our architectural design service, we produced a 3D visual of the property to show the Orangery’s appearance with the uPVC French doors and roof lanterns installed. Visualising the living space before the installation offers homeowners the opportunity to make any changes and provides peace of mind.
The symmetry and design features of the Orangery is in keeping with the aesthetics and traditional charm of the period property.
The three sets of uPVC French doors are designed with Georgian bars to create timeless aesthetics and complement the existing white sash windows.
The external French doors benefit from slim profiles and the strength and low maintenance of uPVC, whilst the wood grain finish replicates the beauty of timber door frames. The satin chrome lever handles and hinges add the finishing touch to these uPVC doors, whilst the multi-point locking system provides high security.
The safety glass units in the uPVC French doors have a Low E coating, warm-edge spacer bars and argon gas to offer exceptional thermal performance. They are combined with the solar reflective glass units in the three roof lanterns to ensure that the Orangery remains at a comfortable temperature throughout the year.
The roof lanterns also have a self-cleaning coating that activates with rain to maintain a clear view of the sky above.
The three pitched roof lanterns add height to the living space and are designed with minimal sightlines to maximise natural daylight and compliment the interior decor and are a stunning focal point in the Orangery.
As the Georgian townhouse is located on a small development, approval was required for the Orangery. The approval came with strict constraints, and noisy and disruptive work had to occur at certain times of the day. The Installation team also managed to minimise dust and disruption and leave the property tidy and safe every day.
The result is a stunning transformation to this Windlesham property. This charming Orangery has created a multi-functional social central hub for the whole family to relax, dine and entertain throughout the year.
Using our glazing expertise and understanding of the homeowner requirements, we designed beautiful, functional living space of a family room, large stylish kitchen and dining area with panoramic views of their garden.
The three sets of French doors provide fresh air, sunlight and easy access to the garden and give the feeling of outdoor/indoor living.
The homeowners are delighted with the high-quality craftsmanship and clever architectural detail of the Orangery and how it has harmonised with the main house’s period style.
We have captured the vision of the Windlesham homeowners requirements by creating the right balance of proportion and a living space filled with abundant amounts of natural light.
We ensure all design elements and glazing options are considered in conjunction with energy efficiency for an Orangery extension.
