An impressive glass Wintergarden offered the ultimate glazing solution for Camberley’s single-storey bungalow extension.
The homeowners were looking to replace their existing polycarbonate lean-to conservatory with a thermally efficient contemporary glass extension that they could use all year round.
After researching bungalow extension ideas online, they were keen to learn more about a Solarlux Wintergarden.
Our Architectural project designer, Marcus, contacted the Camberley homeowners to arrange a visit to our Bracknell showroom to view the Wintergarden we have on display and discuss the Solarlux window and door options available.
Marcus listened to the homeowner’s vision ideas, and requirements which focused on a single storey pitched roof extension with a combination of bifold and sliding doors and fixed shaped windows.
After discussions between a Solarlux designer, the owners and Thames Valley Windows, Marcus recommended a Solarlux Wintergarden with an SDL Akzent plus reverse pitch roof, SL 160 sliding doors, Ecoline fixed and tilt and turn aluminium windows. The thermally broken aluminium profiles are finished with a contemporary metallic tiger finish (WT029), a classic choice.
Once the homeowners had chosen the Wintergarden windows and doors, Marcus sent all the details and specifications to Solarlux in house architectural department to draw up the Wintergarden design before a survey and customers approval.
This single-storey bungalow extension did not require planning permission, as it was replacing a like for like extension, so it is covered under building regulations.
After the survey had taken place, the homeowner’s builder started work to remove the existing conservatory and prepare the base for the installation of the glass Wintergarden.
This stunning glass Wintergarden stands at 2200mm wide, the dramatic SDL Akzent plus reverse pitched roof with reinforced rafters projects 3700mm from the load-bearing sidewall.
The front elevation features a full-height Ecoline tilt and turn window and fixed frame to the right with a two-pane picture window above. A set of SL160 lift and slide doors on the side elevation open up to the beautiful landscape garden.
The lift & slide state-of-the-art sliding mechanism of the sliding doors offers outstanding performance to allow for smooth and effortless soft closing sliding door solution. One of their benefits is they can be locked into a partially open position along either a double or triple track which allows ventilation and airflow in and out of the room without compromising security.
The sliding glass doors are manufactured with special polyamide + foam filled thermal break technology, they are designed for large opening sizes up to 3.4 m high and 3.2 m wide in a range of easy opening configurations.
Solarlux is renowned for high performance and low energy sliding doors with large glass surfaces. Suitable for residential and commercial properties offering excellent weather, security, thermal and acoustic performance.
The toughened low E glazing, argon gas, and black warm edge spacer bar provide the bifold and sliding doors’ safety and greater thermal performance, achieving an impressive overall u-value of just 1.3 w/m²k.
The roof glass panels are finished with a revolutionary low maintenance self-cleaning coating that reacts to the ultraviolet rays from the sun; it attracts rainwater to spread and forms a thin film that washes away quickly and dries off without leaving unattractive smearing and dirt.
The sleek and elegant Wintergarden is nestled neatly in the existing design of the detached bungalow blending the glass extension and house to offer an expansive and comfortable open plan living area suited for dining or relaxing in the garden of this detached Camberley home.
The glass extension creates a beautiful ultra-modern space and architectural feature that instantly enhances and modernises the family home’s facade.
Low voltage white LED lights have been built into the roof rafters to provide additional light and create a homely atmosphere in the darker evenings.
The slim sightlines of the floor to ceiling aluminium windows and doors frames ensure optimum natural light fills the living space and allows the Camberley homeowners to enjoy the views of the garden and benefit from a thermally insulated room all year round.
The eye-catching metallic glimmer powder-coated finish of the windows and doors compliments the interior, and the exterior frames perfectly blend with the immediate surroundings.
