Location: High Wycombe, Bucks
We recently designed and installed a large architectural glazing solution which included four sets of frameless sliding doors and several aluminium windows for a 1950s bungalow renovation in High Wycombe.
The detached bungalow is situated in a semi-rural location on the outskirts of Wooburn Green Village in Buckinghamshire. The homeowners had lived in the property for many years and were keen to radically modernise the exterior and interior to create a beautiful contemporary family home suitable for the 21st century. This included replacement windows and doors.
The homeowners appointed a local architect and builder to undertake the transformation of the tired High Wycombe property and deal with any planning permission or building regulations under permitted development or inspections by building control.
The architects had worked with our architectural designer Marcus on previous property refurbishments projects. They had recommended us as the industry-leading double glazing window company to the High Wycombe homeowners.
The core element of the client’s brief for Jeremy Bailey Architects for this project was to design a highly sustainable modern home with a minimal glazing solution that will provide natural light, maximise the views across the garden, and better connect the inside living space with the outside.
Marcus worked closely with the architects and homeowners and recommended that flush aluminium windows and Vision20 glazed sliding doors would provide a minimal contemporary look and offer impressive levels of airtightness and thermal insulation.
The existing bungalow exterior was covered in a drab off white render, part of the renovation plans was to replace it with a fresh, clean white insulated render once the double-glazed windows and doors had been installed.
The homeowners chose (RAL 7016) anthracite grey powder-coated finish for the aluminium window and door frames to enhance the minimalism aesthetics.
Multiple frameless sliding doors along the rear façade provide the ultimate epitome of style and maximise light in the open plan kitchen, living room, master bedroom and office.
These minimal framed large glazed areas allow the homeowners to enjoy the stunning uninterrupted views of the garden and, when open, provide a seamless transition between the inside and the outdoor courtyard all year round.
The detached bungalow has been completely transformed, the interior was entirely reconfigured to ensure the entire footprint was utilised. Living spaces were carefully reconfigured to maximise light and provide a more functional and energy-efficient family home.
The interior has been refurbished to a high specification with a minimal contemporary open-plan layout of the kitchen and dining area have been created, has been used throughout, with high-quality finishes and fittings.
All the double-glazed units in the aluminium windows and doors are argon gas-filled, warm edge spacer bar and Low-E coating that exceeds building regulation standards, creating a highly sustainable and functional family home with a low carbon footprint that will help to reduce energy bills.
We are thrilled with the final outcome, which associates well with the homeowner’s and architect’s brief.
The High Wycombe homeowners are delighted with their aluminium windows and frameless sliding doors and advised:
We were doing a rejig of our house, moving rooms about to create an open a new kitchen and dining room. It really helped to be able to visit the showroom as I was able to see the quality of the aluminium windows and sliding doors and was very impressed by them.
The sliding doors have helped create a really lovely space where we can enjoy our garden from the inside of the house and have a large unencumbered view – which was absolutely what I wanted.
Best value for the quality of windows – also like the level of service we received at the showroom.
The overall experience has been very good. It was helpful having an account manager as they could keep me informed of progress. Our builders commented that TVW were the best window company they had dealt with, and they have experienced many of them! We had a couple of minor hiccups, but Dan was on the case and sorted those out for us, which is the most important thing. I had to contact TVW recently as one of the locks was not working correctly, and I was impressed with how my query was dealt with – someone came out the next day to sort it.
The finished bungalow renovation is a stunning transformation! and a real testament to ‘don’t move, improve’.
