Location: High Wycombe
The elegance and beauty of these black timber windows, which we recently installed in a beautiful 17th-century Barn Conversion in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, are simply stunning.
This remarkable property is nestled in the tranquil hamlet of Cryers Hill, close to Hughenden Manor and Hughenden Park, a National Trust site and an area of outstanding natural beauty.
The homeowners had lived in the family home for many years and decided that the original single-glazed windows didn’t look their best and needed to be more secure and energy efficient.
After receiving a recommendation, the High Wycombe homeowners contacted Thames Valley Windows and requested a free, no-obligation quote for replacement black timber windows.
Our designer, Rob, contacted the homeowners and listened closely to their requirements; part of their brief was they required energy-efficient black timber windows.
They were keen that the replacement windows did not diminish the property’s elegant characteristics and style, which they had initially fallen in love with. The homeowners were determined to enhance their living space with more secure and energy-efficient windows. We are pleased to say that the homeowners were delighted with the result and felt reassured about the quality and elegance of the replacement windows.
Our designer, Rob, brings a wealth of experience in the glazing industry and a deep passion for traditional British aesthetics. He has in-depth knowledge of period architectural styles. Rob’s passion for historic buildings is a driving force in his work, and he combines this with his love for contemporary design, conventional construction, and sustainable development. The homeowners were actively involved in the selection process, considering various options before settling on the black timber windows that perfectly matched their vision for the property.
The replacement black windows are made from factory-finished engineered redwood. The frames are Black (RAL 9005) on the outside and White (RAL 9010) on the inside. Antique black teardrop window handles were chosen to complete the effect of a traditional 17th-century Barn Conversion.

Barns from the 17th Century hold a special place in history. They were integral to the agricultural landscape of the time, serving as storage for crops and shelter for livestock.
These barns, constructed with traditional techniques and materials, are a testament to the era’s craftsmanship. They reflect the architectural styles and farming practices of the time, making them valuable historical artefacts.
The conversion of these barns into modern homes not only provides us with comfortable living spaces but also helps preserve this history. It allows us to appreciate the past while enjoying the comforts of the present.
The end result is stunning. The flush black timber windows with slim profiles exude quality, security, and style while complementing the exterior finish, offering a striking contrast without feeling out of place.
The slim window frames allow natural light to flow throughout the 17th Century Barn Conversion and offer unobstructed views of a highly desirable rural location.

We were looking for quality, and the price fit our budget.
Excellent results. It looks great and is in keeping with the property. New double glazing has made the house quieter.
We could not find the quality we were looking for elsewhere to fit in with our property.
It was a very good experience from order to completion, and I would recommend TVW to others.
