On Saturday, 21st September, two colleagues from Thames Valley Windows completed the Shine Night Half Marathon Walk in aid of Cancer Research UK.
Karen and Susan decided to spend their Saturday evening in pink tutus and glowsticks lined up on the start line of the Shine Night Half Marathon Walk in Battersea Park, with over 3000 other enthusiastic walkers raising money for Cancer Research UK.
They chose to join the “Power Walkers,” aiming to complete the 13.1 miles in under 4.5 hours.
The illuminating half-marathon walk through the heart of London at night was an inspiring journey. Karen and Susan saw many famous London landmarks and river views.
They walked over Albert Bridge and passed the Royal Albert Hall, Buckingham Palace, Waterloo Bridge, and Trafalgar Square.
They had lovely views of the gorgeous buildings of Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament, and Big Ben, with their ornate, detailed architecture and rich history lit up at night, which was pretty special.
The vibrant pink London Eye in the night sky was awe-inspiring!
After passing Battersea Power Station, they headed towards the finish line at Battersea Park, where participants could relax, stretch, and collect their medals to celebrate their accomplishments.
Karen and Susan spent a great evening together outside work, raising funds for a great charity.
The event is non-competitive and focused on having fun and raising money for charity.
It was challenging, but the achievement was uplifting and rewarding. Karen and Susan, with their determination and spirit, completed the 13-mile course in 3 hours and 51 minutes, a testament to their commitment and the support they received.
They are deeply grateful to everyone who has kindly sponsored so far. Your generous contributions have helped them raise an impressive £810 plus £170 in Gift Aid, greatly exceeding their original £600 target. There is still time for others to donate!
