Location: Binfield
The Binfield homeowners contacted Thames Valley Windows in 2022 to design an architectural glazing solution for their renovated 1960s bungalow project.
They purchased the 1960s bungalow in 2021 with a clear vision to transform it into a modern, light-filled home.
The property is located in the heart of Binfield village.
Our designer, Luke, contacted the homeowners to discuss their renovation project and listened carefully to the requirements.
They wanted to refresh the look of their home and replace the existing brown wooden windows and doors with energy-efficient modern glazing solutions in a contemporary colour that would modernise the property’s aesthetics.
Their brief was that they required high-performance, large-picture aluminium windows with either top-hinged hinges or a repeat of the existing hinges halfway up the sides.
They were keen on large sliding doors for the rear of the house, which would provide a seamless connection to the garden.
The Binfield homeowners took a proactive step by booking a showroom appointment with Luke to view the range of double—and triple-glazed aluminium windows and doors on display and the colour options. This thorough process helped them choose the best modern glazing solution for their 1960s bungalow renovation project.
Luke recommended that double-glazed aïr Mod aluminium casement windows and aïr 600 lift and slide doors provide the modern aesthetics they require and offer impressive thermal performance and airtightness.
The Binfield homeowners chose a contemporary RAL7038 agate grey external and internal finish for all the windows and sliding doors to match their modern aesthetics. This colour choice not only complements the bungalow’s contemporary design but also enhances its curb appeal, making it a standout property in the sought-after Binfield village.
Agate grey RAL 7038 is a luxurious, delicate, neutral, soft grey with a hint of light green hues to create an on-trend grey-white tone that visually works incredibly well with other materials and colours.

The Air Mod window is a high-performing PAS 24 accredited and Document Q-compliant window. Every window is bespoke and designed to be flush inside and out. Its ultra-slim powder coat finish outer frame allows for maximum glass area, achieving a sleek, minimalistic aesthetic and offering outstanding performance, security, and versatility.
The beauty of the Air Mod window lies within the profile. It features innovative polyamide thermal break technology, providing a highly thermally insulated window. This technology significantly reduces heat transfer, resulting in a window that achieves a low U-value of up to 1.0 W/m2K, ensuring your home’s comfortable temperature all year round.
Air Mod flush aluminium windows also come with high-performance handles and multi-point locking systems for enhanced security. These systems engage multiple locking points around the window frame, making it challenging for intruders to force the window open. In addition, the windows have interlocking beads that exceed British security standards, providing an extra layer of protection for your home.
Air Mod flush aluminium windows offer the ultimate minimalist aesthetics. The larger glass-to-frame ratio provides outstanding thermal efficiency, and the minimal frames are virtually maintenance-free, giving you peace of mind and saving you time and effort in the long run.
Flush aluminium windows, popular with homeowners and architects, are sleek enough for contemporary architecture and versatile to suit traditional properties. Their proportions and various options make them a perfect fit for any property type, offering an architectural glazing solution that can be tailored to meet your specific needs.
This 1960s bungalow renovation has been completed with the finest attention to detail and an exceptionally high standard. The final result is breathtaking and a testament to the homeowners’ satisfaction with choosing agate grey aluminium windows and doors.
The gallery above shows the transformation before-and-after photos. These photos are a visual record of the project’s progress and a testament to the transformative power of modern architectural glazing solutions. Luke carefully considered every detail to rejuvenate the Binfield 1960s bungalow with an energy-efficient architectural glazing solution for contemporary living, and the results speak for themselves.
The low-e soft coat double-glazed units with black warm-edge spacer bar and argon gas fill reduce heat loss and offer excellent energy efficiency.
The real wow factor of this impressive large-scale refurbishment project is the wide-span three-pane Air 600 lift-and-slide doors with flush thresholds at the rear of the property. These doors flood the living space with natural light and create a harmonious connection between the inside and outside.
We did not install trickle vents to the agate grey aluminium windows and doors as the homeowners chose an alternative means of passive ventilation. Their desire for a more energy-efficient and aesthetically pleasing solution guided their decision. The preferred method ensures a constant supply of fresh air, maintaining a healthy indoor environment without compromising the sleek design of the windows and doors.
Anthracite grey windows have dominated the glazing market for the last few years. Agate grey windows are now on trend for Berkshire, Surrey, and Oxfordshire properties when replacing brown wooden windows.
The Binfield homeowners can now enjoy their lovely modernised 1960’s Bungalow. and have advised of the following:
“Quality of product and price, plus Luke was very helpful during the presale.”
“The overall effect has transformed from 1960s wood-framed pseudo-double glazing to modern, sleek, efficient glazing. One would hope the investment would be reflected in any property valuation, but we haven’t had one since the work was done.”
“The price and product were good.”
