Beautiful Large, L Shaped Orangery Extension replaces Old Conservatory, Warfield

We recently designed and installed a large L-shaped Orangery extension to a detached property nestled within a quaint and leafy cul-de-sac in the heart of the beautiful old Warfield village.

The Warfield homeowners decided that their old polycarbonate roof conservatory was too hot in the summer and provided very little warmth in the winter. Hence, it was in desperate need of a new lease of life.

Since the pandemic, the owners felt that their detached property, which was initially built in the 1980s, needed radically updating and reconfiguring for modern living.

They wanted to renovate the ground floor to have a more open-plan feel and create a bigger kitchen and dining space.

Our architectural designer Michael contacted the Warfield homeowners to discuss their home renovation project and listened to their requirements.

Part of their brief focus was to create a room filled with natural light that offered much better thermal performance, giving them an all-year-round living space for their growing family.

The Warfield homeowners visited our Bracknell showroom, where they met Michael and had the opportunity to view our living spaces on display, including our Wintergarden and Orangery.

These home-style living spaces helped the owners visualise just what could be designed for their Warfield home.

Michael discussed and showed examples of the most cost-effective uPVC and aluminium window and door styles he could include within the Orangery design process.

What sold the L-shaped Orangery extension to the owners was the detailed 3D life-like architectural visualisations Michael created. It helped them visualise how the extension would look at their home and what it would offer.

Michael transformed the homeowners’ vision of a small replacement conservatory into a wow factor open plan living space that would change how they lived within their family home.

Our clients chose a large L-shaped Orangery extension after exploring the different design options. They selected a large 7.8 m glass roof lantern glazed in modern Low “E” Ambi neutral glass that is self-cleaning, solar control and thermally efficient. The uPVC roof frames are RAL9005 Jet black on the outside and white on the inside.

They opted for Solarlux SL 60e aluminium bi-folding doors and fixed frames, which are finished in matching deep black (RAL 9005) with a matt finish inside and out, colour-matched hinges and a flush threshold.

They also selected a specialist glass coating that ensures a controlled temperature all year round and moderates the sun’s glare in the summer months. The roof lantern is finished with matching RAL7016 on the exterior and white on the inside with a contemporary cornice finish.

Michael led the architectural design of this single-storey extension in Warfield; he oversaw the whole project from the first conversation to the build phase and completion.

Planning approval had to be obtained before the commencement of the build, which Michael applied to Bracknell Forest Council’s planning department on the homeowner’s behalf. He ensured that each phase was fully compliant with building regulations, whilst working with building inspectors, local tradespeople and window installers.

The first stage of the home renovation project was to remove the old conservatory and knock through the existing dining room and kitchen, then extend the rear of the house to result in one large L-shaped Orangery extension that is connected to the garden for inside/outside living.

Despite a large amount of glass, the roof lantern, bi-fold doors, and fixed windows offer a low u-value of 1.4w/m²K.

This high-end house extension is one of our favourite 2022 projects. The L-shaped Orangery extension is contemporary in design, with understated luxury features that have been designed with outstanding attention to detail and finished to the highest specification

The high-quality aluminium bifold doors open up to a decked patio area and landscaped garden, offering plenty of natural light and a vast sense of openness whilst creating an excellent space for entertaining.

The L-shaped Orangery extension has increased the ground floor footprint significantly, including a new utility room and boot room, which are located to the side of the extension.

The latest trend in interior design is a boot room designed specifically to create a barrier between the garden and the house where coats and boots can be left.

Michael has completely transformed this beautiful Warfield detached property. The result is stunning. Beautiful natural light-filled space that the family can use every day rather than the occasional use they had initially intended.
