Location: Tadley
Thames Valley Windows supplied the complete bespoke glazing package for this luxurious contemporary detached timber-framed eco-home in the small town of Tadley, Hampshire.
The homeowners contacted us for a quote for four different glazing products, including a modern aluminium bifolding window with an anthracite grey powder coating finish for their kitchen.
Servery or aluminium bifolding windows offer an eye-catching aesthetic as they fully open and fold neatly to one side, making them ideal for kitchens.
Traditionally used in cafes and restaurants, these high-performance, innovative windows are becoming popular in UK homes. The bifolding window works well for homeowners who enjoy barbecuing and al fresco dining, adding the wow factor to their homes’ aesthetics.
The Tadley homeowners purchased a 1930s bungalow on 14 acres of land in Pamber Green, a small north Hampshire hamlet in the centre of the triangle created by the local towns of Basingstoke, Reading and Newbury. They envisioned knocking it down to build an entirely new home.
They then meticulously planned the transformation, commissioning a leading architectural practice to design a large and luxurious timber-framed eco Home that would eventually stand in its place, bringing the site up to modern living standards.
The architects used traditional materials and detailing, including timber frame feature trusses, hanging tiles and brickwork, and large amounts of glazing to all elevations.
The glazing was fundamental to the home’s design and one of the most important investments in the project.
Another glazing company recommended Thames Valley Windows to the homeowner as a specialist glazing company that could design and install all the glazing throughout the property, achieving exceptional quality and unparalleled precision for such a luxurious, new-build home. So, they contacted us with their architectural plans.
As large glass panels are an essential feature of the house design, our designer, Liam, worked with the homeowners to find a bespoke window and door system to compliment the Timber Framed Eco Home.
Bespoke glazing constitutes a significant part of this building. Our designer, Liam, quoted for the windows and doors off the plan and recommended that the homeowners schedule a visit to our Bracknell Showroom.
At the showroom appointment, Liam discussed the specifications of each product with the architect and the homeowners. Liam also explained several options and ideas before the final decision.
The project combined bespoke glazing from four manufacturers, demonstrating our capabilities in providing a bespoke glazing solution for our customers.
With their attention to detail, the architects sought planning permission, which ultimately led to demolishing the existing bungalow and outbuilding in readiness to construct this new luxury home.
In this New Build project, the triple-glazed Auraplus units were installed with an average U-value of 0.81 and an average WER rating of 16.3—impressive figures for a Passivhaus project. These triple-glazed Rationel AURAPLUS windows and doors contributed to the building’s airtight layer while seamlessly blending with the environment’s outstanding natural beauty.
Rationel AURAPLUS windows are designed to be sleek and minimalistic, providing a modern architectural appearance that aligns perfectly with the homeowner’s contemporary design brief.
AURAPLUS windows primarily use timber for their interior for that distinctive Scandinavian feel, complemented by an aluminium exterior profile. This combination beautifully blends the natural warmth of wood indoors with virtually maintenance-free on the exterior, making it a practical choice for any home. The narrow profiles maximise daylight within the house and provide stunning views of the magnificent surroundings.
Rationel AURAPLUS windows make a positive energy contribution, achieving up to +31 kWh/m² per year by allowing more solar heat to enter the building than it releases. This results in considerable reductions in CO2 emissions and significantly lower heating bills during winter. Additionally, these windows enhance the indoor climate by minimising drafts and cold spots, contributing to overall comfort and health.
Every room in this house is filled with premium architectural features, and thanks to the large expanses of glazing, it benefits from natural light.
The front elevation combines slim-framed casement windows and two distinctively shaped gable windows. The property’s entrance is through a stunning timber door. The anthracite grey window frames and entrance door give depth and distinction to the red bricks.
The rear elevation mirrors the front elevation with two large gable windows. Large picture windows sit centrally above the French doors within the rear elevation to allow natural light to flow within the interior space.
The impressive bathroom window is a stunning architectural feature when viewed from the outside and inside the property. It provides picturesque garden views and brings the outdoors into the family home.
The bifolding windows is designed with the Ecoline Bifold door profile. When fully open, the stunning bifolding window in the kitchen offers stunning panoramic garden views. Along with its spectacular design the bifolding window worked incredibly well for this property and will allow the Tadley homeowners to benefit from improved thermal performance and longevity.
The Annex boasts a huge gable end window with Solarlux Ecoline bi-folding doors that create a wow factor to the living space inside and outside and a seamless transmission between indoors and outdoors.
The Ecoline bifold door system is known for its energy efficiency and clean, slim sightlines. The aluminium bifold doors have a building depth of 67 mm, a maximum height of 3 meters and a maximum panel width of 1 meter that can open inward or outward.
This is made possible by a larger aluminium hinge system that supports larger and heavier panels. Additionally, the system provides excellent thermal insulation due to a discreet reinforcement profile that adds strength without increasing bulk.
These quality product features make our bifold door system a versatile and appealing choice for any home.
The Ecoline bifold door system achieves a low U-value of 1.1 W/m²K, one of the lowest available for bifolding doors. The powder-coated aluminium framing requires minimal maintenance.
Ecoline has received numerous design awards, but it’s not just about aesthetics; it’s also focused on security. Their products are certified to meet the PAS 24:2016 standards, representing a rigorous security performance test. The locking systems are also accredited by Secured by Design (SBD), the official UK police security initiative.
Our expertise ensured that despite a mix-and-match approach to product selection, the whole installation ran seamlessly, with a stunning, cohesive look throughout the home, from front to back and inside to out.
This meticulously crafted house is a project we were very proud to be part of. Designed by English Brothers architects and built by Samuel James Project Management, its glazing maximised space and natural light.
This beautiful timber-framed eco home incorporates an air source heat pump for whole-house heating, an MVHR heat recovery system, and solar panels. The interior features a home automation system that manages lighting, audio-visual equipment, heating, cooling, and security.
The final results are truly remarkable. The property has been designed and built to the highest standards, showcasing fantastic attention to detail. The interior is just as impressive as the construction itself, and we are delighted to add this outstanding bifolding window project to our portfolio.
