Location: Hook
In 2022, we installed black art deco windows and French doors as part of a house renovation project for a detached country cottage in Hook.
The beautiful family home is in the heart of Hook’s highly desirable village, protected by conservation areas.
We have enjoyed following the homeowner’s renovation journey on Instagram @upside_down_house_renovation
They have tastefully upgraded the exterior and interior design in keeping with the charm and character that this stunning family house has to offer.
The Hook homeowners wanted to make their family home more sustainable and energy-efficient, so they wanted to replace the property’s original windows. They had spent many weeks researching a trusted and reliable double glazing company to supply and install art deco windows when they found the perfect glazing solution on the Thames Valley Windows website.
They contacted us and were keen to make an appointment at our Bracknell showroom.
Our architectural project designer Marcus contacted the homeowners to listen to their home renovation project and discuss their glazing requirements.
As part of their brief, as the period cottage was in a conservation area, it was important that the local planning authorities would approve the replacement windows.
At the showroom, the Hook homeowners could browse the beautiful range of double-glazed aluminium and timber windows on display, and Marcus demonstrated the versatility of each window system.
With his many years in the glazing industry, Marcus’expertise and eye for design helped to guide the Hook homeowners through making the right glazing decision for their home.
After careful consideration, they decided that the quality and design of the Heritage 47 aluminium windows finished in RAL9005 black matt finalised their decision that it would be the perfect glazing solution that the local planning authorities would hopefully accept.
Soon after, the Hook homeowners applied for planning permission for replacement fenestration so that the existing timber windows would be replaced with aluminium windows in a similar ‘Georgian style. The windows’ height in the bathroom and en-suite would increase the size by lowering the cell level.
Once planning permission was approved, they contacted Marcus to confirm their order and sign their contract so we could start arranging a survey date.

All the art deco windows and French doors are fitted with an enhanced multi-point locking system as standard.
All the double-glazed units are A+ rated toughened, warm edge clear spacer bars, and argon gas-filled; this combined water tightness of up to 600 pa and wind resistance of 2400 pa means they offer superb thermal efficiency and insulation.
Art Deco style is on trend with homeowners and interior designers; it originated in the mid-1920s in Paris and is all about vivid lines and eye-catching dark shapes.
The result is stunning; this period cottage has undergone meticulous renovation and modernisation while preserving its beautiful and elegant features.
The striking black Art Dec windows add to the period cottage architectural heritage and help to fill the living spaces with natural light.
