Corner Window – Internorm Large Scale Glazing- New Build- Wiltshire

A glass to glass frameless corner window was a key element of the design brief for this sustainable, contemporary new build nestled in the rolling rural landscape of Wiltshire. Hidden from the roadside on an elevated position, it boasts views across the Box Valley countryside and towards the historic village of Colerne.

The land was previously home to a large 1960’s bungalow surrounded by a one-acre garden. The Wiltshire homeowners decided to demolish the existing property and replace with an energy-efficient new build.

A new build is a more cost-effective option than renovating due to no VAT on new builds. The property has been designed and built to an exceptionally high standard and offers the ultimate in luxurious living.

Thames Valley Windows was chosen to design, supply and install an innovative architectural glazing solution for the Wiltshire property.

The homeowners researched window and door solutions with the same meticulous details applied to the new build. Our MD and designer Ryan Schofield had several meetings with the architect and builder and the homeowners benefitted from a visit to our Bracknell showroom.

The Wiltshire homeowners advised “The architect (CaSA) recommended both Thames Valley Windows and Internorm windows and doors. Saying this I did visit two other double-glazing showrooms to view these windows and doors and found that Thames Valley Windows showroom and staff offered a better, more comprehensive service and great knowledge of the product.”

The homeowners felt the aesthetic appearance and the high performance of the Internorm Windows and Doors matched the desired requirements and design of their “state of the art” new build.

Internorm Aluminium clad timber windows and lift and slide doors with triple glazing was chosen as the insulation built into the frames offer the lowest U-values and excellent thermal performance and achieve passive house standard efficiency.

We worked closely with the architect and builder to supply and install all windows and doors to meet the architect’s specifications and builders schedule throughout the project.

One of the most important features for this Wiltshire new build was the windows and doors to ensure all rooms benefit from floor to ceiling glazing to take advantage of solar gains and natural light to create brighter living spaces whilst giving the illusion of space.

The client requested an edge to edge corner window with minimal frame and without any corner posts or visible structure at either side of their open plan living area to make the most of the daytime and evening sunshine and uninterrupted panoramic views.

One corner window is designed with Internorm Timber/aluminium HS330 lift and slide door system and fixed window and flush floor threshold to blend the inside seamlessly with the outside of the garden terrace, that allows the Wiltshire homeowners to maximise the evening sunlight to create their own oasis in this countryside location.

The other corner window is designed with a combination of two fixed HF310 Internorm Timber/aluminium studio windows and a tilt and turn window creating a stunning window seat.

The technical practicalities of two minimal framed corner windows was a significant factor in the design. However, both the architect and the homeowner were delighted with the overall aesthetical design and performance.

As part of this new build, we also installed tilt and turn Internorm timber/aluminium studio windows throughout and Pirnar Front door which created a stunning focal to the property entrance.

The combination of high-performance timber/aluminium windows and sliding doors with a triple gasket sealing system will ensure this Wiltshire property benefits exceptional, acoustic performance and sound insulation, thermal efficiency, security and weatherproofing that are perfect for rural countryside properties.

The triple-glazed Aluminium clad window and door frames are finished in Anthracite grey RAL7016 matt on the outside with a protective coating to keep the windows looking stunning for many years whilst protecting the timber from weathering. Inside the timber window frames are finished in a warm natural spruce FI510 to match the interior décor.

The contrast of the natural timber cladding and dark grey zinc aluminium roof perimeter with the anthracite grey timber/ aluminium windows shows a blend of traditional and contemporary materials that enhance the minimalist lines of this countryside property and beautiful rural setting.
