Double Storey Extension and Modern Orangery. Guildford
We recently designed and installed double glazing into a two-storey extension and a modern orangery for a detached property situated in an idyllic location in the rural village of Normandy.
The Guildford homeowners called our office to make an appointment at our Bracknell showroom where they could view the range of doors and windows and discuss the best architectural glazing solution for their home improvement project.
The owners already had their plans drawn up by their architect to extend their home with a single and a large double-storey rear extension to their property to increase the amount of living space in their home.
The goal for this project was a complete transformation of their traditional four-bedroom house into a fantastic light-filled and spacious modernised home with a connection out to the garden.
Our clients were looking to make their house as stylish and contemporary as possible with new double-glazed windows and doors in both the existing house and the new extension designed to their requirements.
The homeowners advised “We knew what we wanted the overall windows and door to be like, but it was just a matter of choosing the best glazing option for our design. We looked at a few different double- glazing companies. We chose Thames Valley Windows because we were impressed with their German Solarlux doors which we had researched were particularly good quality, offering good insulation and security.”
After a design consultation, Michael, our architectural designer, spent time looking at the plans and discussed ways of improving them, and showed examples of the most suitable cost-effective windows and doors for the project. He designed and created new proposed plans which he submitted with the planning application. He also provided full-colour 3D visuals of the proposed double-storey extension and modern Orangery with the window and door designs which allowed the clients to visualise the finished design
For the contemporary Orangery extension, our clients decided on a four-panel Solarlax Combiline bi-folding door system with a traffic door. They opted for dual coloured and selected anthracite grey for the exterior to match the finish of the dark grey windows. In contrast, inside they chose oak frames to complement the flooring and cupboards and enhance the interior décor. Bespoke minimalist design Atlas aluminium roof lantern finished with matching RAL7016 on the exterior and white on the inside.
They chose a four-panel Solarlux Ecoline bifold door system to create a seamless connection to the garden and allow natural light to pour into the family home.
To replace the brown uPVC windows, they selected Halo flush uPVC casement windows with even sightlines, in dual colour with a dark grey grain on the exterior and white on the inside. To complete the renovation, they decided on a contemporary Pirnar aluminium front door with sidelight for a grand entrance to their newly extended property
The large double-storey and single extension to the property generated additional open plan living space downstairs. The ground floor was fully refurbished with a new open-plan living /dining area.
The upper floor was also redesigned to include a walk-in wardrobe and an en-suite bathroom in the new bedroom, that also features a stunning set of French doors and Juliette balcony to add a spectacular feature to the room while enjoying the countryside views.
Perhaps one of the best design features of this Guildford house is the wonderfully designed modern Orangery, which enjoys views of the garden and brings the outside in making both the interior and garden space feel bigger. The interior decor is just as stunning as the exterior with a beautiful combination of modern and traditional features and furnishings.
It has been designed with wide aluminium bi-folding doors which lead out to the patio area and garden bringing with it a spacious naturally lit room where the whole family can relax, dine, entertain and enjoy. The large glass roof lantern has been installed to the flat roof to maximise the natural light available to the living space. The roof lantern incorporates self-cleaning solar control glass which also reduces glare and heat build-up in the summer months.
The external rear section of the house has been given a complete makeover, with a fantastic combination of casement windows, French doors with tilt and turn windows and two sets of aluminium bi-fold doors. The bi-fold doors allow both the Orangery and kitchen to be completely opened up to the garden.
Both the double-storey extension and Orangery have been designed with matching bricks and design details to the original house, so it blends seamlessly with the existing roof pitches and structure. The dark grey windows, bifold doors and entrance door brings out the darker shades of the red brick to give a contemporary feel to the exterior.
The entire project was co-ordinated by Thames Valley Windows and has been completed with the finest attention to detail, to fully transform this beautiful Guildford family home with a bespoke glazing solution, with exceptionally high-quality finishes.
The family are now relishing their improved extended living area and all the double-glazing products we installed throughout the whole house. They were very positive about their experience working with us and provided us with some glowing feedback for this project:
“We are thrilled with the result; the extra rooms are so light and spacious and the additional space has really worked well during the current lockdown situation with all the family working and studying from home.”
