Gable End Fixed Window and Leaded Flush Casement Windows for Loft Conversion, Basingstoke

Location: Basingstoke, Hampshire

Being the focal point of the loft conversion in Basingstoke the Solarlux Ecoline gable end fixed window merely looks stunning finished in anthracite grey for a clean contemporary look.

The detached family home has immense character and stature, with an abundance of period features and, is located in a picturesque tree-lined close in one of Basingstoke’s most sought after locations.

The loft extension is part of a complete house renovation project and remodelling which included second storey extension above existing garage and flat-roofed single-storey rear extension with roof terrace and new double-glazed windows and doors throughout the property in Basingstoke, Hampshire.

Thames Valley Windows were approached to supply a bespoke glazing solution for the renovation project to give continuity and style that accurately represent the period look of the Tudor property.

The Basingstoke homeowners made an appointment with our designer Joe to visit our Bracknell showroom.

Our customers advised: We researched a large number of local and national glazing companies prior to committing to purchasing our windows through Thames Valley Windows. The deciding factors were the service and products on offer. We had an initial appointment with Joe who patiently walked us through a range of options.

With planning, permission approved an initial meeting was held with the customer to view the architect plans and discuss product requirements, taking into account environmental considerations, quality, functionality, performance, budget, and installation schedule.

Our highly experienced designer, Joe, provided our customers with a personal service helping with professional advice to select products to enhance, add value, exude quality and offers enhanced acoustic and thermal performance.

The plan for the loft space was for a games room and bathroom. With the loft conversion windows being the Solarlux Ecoline fixed and Evolution flush casement leaded windows for the bathroom, and front windows, and a large minimalist, and elegant staircase window for the added wow factor.

Our customers advised: We were after windows which would look like timber but with less maintenance, and ultimately decided upon the Evolution series. These flush casements, with white woodgrain finish and butt joints really are difficult to distinguish from real timber.

Joe prepared a free no-obligation quotation along with 3D visuals in full-colour of how the windows and doors will look on their home.

With our unique 3D architectural design service, we take some photographs of the property and create beautiful 3D digital visualisations of your house and chosen window and door designs.

After the survey was complete production was scheduled to suit the renovation programme, with the builders and co-ordinated to install the Evolution flush casement leaded windows, then the Solarlux bifold doors and finally the Pirnar entrance door.

The gable-end fixed window was a significant factor in the loft conversion design. Still, it also needed to meet the safety requirements the Building control manager from Basingstoke and Dene Borough Council. The window glazing unit and frame in the loft conversion is classified as Class 2 In addition to its normal function the window also needs to provide protection from falling.

The “guarding” part of the window system needs to resist minimum loadings for up to 1100mm measured vertically above-finished floor level. It had to be designed and manufactured to comply and satisfy requirements in Part K2 of Schedule 1 to the Building Regulations 2010.

A few options were discussed with either internal permanent screen protection or external Juliette balcony. Still, with our expertise and knowledge, we were able to overcome these options with a 6mm-6mm glazing unit. Both the building control manager and the homeowner were extremely pleased with the overall result and performance of the product.

The loft conversion is stunning, and the living space has a modern feel with a contemporary interior colour theme running throughout the house.

With a combination of Velux windows and the slender frame of both the large staircase window and gable end fixed window allows a wealth of natural light to cascades into the loft room and hallway making the room naturally brighter, and energy efficient.

We absolutely enjoyed providing an architectural glazing solution to this full house renovation project in Basingstoke and, most importantly, the owners are overjoyed with the results.

In addition to the double glazed windows for the loft conversion,  the property was further enhanced by the addition of Evolution double glazed flush casement windows and Solarlux Bifold doors.
