Location: Barnes Common, London
Standing majestically within Barnes Common – one of the largest areas of open grassland in Greater London – is the prestigious Royal Swiss Apartments complex. This exclusive new build development of 14 one and three bedroom luxury apartments, has been designed by the architects in a precise, minimal style.
The exterior of the two residential buildings merge a striking clad fascia with large expanses of glazing. Each apartment benefits from a spacious balcony with a sleek glass balustrade to provide residents with access to outside space and beautiful views over the common.
The scheme has been carefully planned to incorporate fine architectural detailing and superior acoustic performance throughout. The choice of windows for the complex was therefore critical. Because the development is located close to main line railway, there was a strict requirement to achieve a sound protection rating of 40 decibels. The building contractor opted for high performing Internorm KF200 contemporary composite windows, which have been designed to offer excellent thermal performance of up to 0.81 W/m²K and sound insulation of between 33 and 45 dB.
The KF200 windows are finished in black aluminium on the outside to complement the sharp exterior of the building and white uPVC on the inside. As well as providing unrivalled sound and thermal insulation, the windows are virtually maintenance free and offer the highest levels of security.
