Modern Glass Extension replaced the outdated White Conservatory, Sevenoaks

Location: Sevenoaks

We recently replaced an outdated white conservatory with a thermally efficient modern glass extension in a beautiful detached property in a conservation area in Sevenoaks.

Sevenoaks is a historic market town established in the mid-13th century.

The detached property is on a highly sought-after private road within the popular exclusive Wilderness Estate.

The Sevenoaks homeowners had been customers of Thames Valley Windows since 2010, so we were delighted when they contacted our designer, Sean, for a quote for a modern glass extension.

Our designer, Sean, brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the business, having worked in the glazing industry for over 20 years. The attention to detail Sean has gained over the years helps him design energy-efficient glazing solutions. He aims to deliver an outstanding customer experience from design to completion.

Sean’s extensive experience and commitment to sustainability bring a unique perspective to our team. As a double-glazing company, he is enthusiastic about our ability to promote a healthier environment through energy-efficient windows and doors that enhance homes with natural light and well-being.

Sean has developed numerous bespoke architectural glazing solutions for residential and commercial projects throughout his career. His competence and reliability have built solid, trust-based relationships with his clients.

The brief was to remove the outdated white conservatory and install a new modern extension within the lower levels of a courtyard garden. The extension would contrast with the traditional architecture and re-energise the detached property.

The finished result is a modern glass extension, which adds a ‘wow factor’ to the detached property and offers a new space for the whole family to enjoy, whether entertaining guests or spending family time together. The homeowners were satisfied and thrilled with the transformation, a testament to our commitment to delivering customer satisfaction.

The Sevenoaks homeowners opted for the Solarlux Wintergarden, attracted by its high quality, performance, and luxurious features.

The Solarlux Wintergarden is a testament to the perfect blend of functionality, precision engineering, and aesthetics. Its meticulous design, from the bi-folding doors to the motorised roof vent, ensures its relevance and quality in today’s ever-evolving glazing market.

Solarlux is a high-end brand specialising in aluminium glass extensions and modern bi-folding and sliding doors. Each product is custom-made in Germany using cutting-edge technology and innovative engineering, guaranteeing durability, functionality, and efficiency.

The contemporary glass extension occupies a substantial footprint, measuring approximately 4.2m wide by 3m deep, maximising the available space accordingly.

The low-maintenance aluminium frame is finished in matt powder-coated RAL9005 Jet Black

The design for this thermally broken aluminium modern glass extension included SL60e Bi-Folding doors, an SDL Akzent roof, a motorised roof vent and an internal electric roof blind.

The modern glazed extension is not just about aesthetics but also about energy efficiency. Pilkington toughened low ‘e’ glass is used throughout, with argon gas filling the space between the panes to insulate the room and minimise heat transfer. This and the warm black edge spacer ensure all-year-round comfort while reducing the home’s carbon footprint.

Solarlux SL60e Bi-Folding doors were installed on two elevations, allowing this modern glass extension to be opened up on warm days to provide uninterrupted views of the courtyard and landscaped garden.

The doors open by stacking externally, and a flush floor track creates a smooth, barrier-free opening onto the courtyard garden.

The bifold doors have high-quality stainless steel lever handles and a multi-point lock on the exterior. Inside, a flat interim stainless steel handle provides a sleek finish.

The glass roof benefits from active neutral self-cleaning solar control glass, which combines solar control, light transmission, and self-cleaning performance. This ensures a comfortable living space, regardless of the weather.

The electric roof vents provide excellent ventilation, while the internal motorised awning and pleated blinds for all the bi-fold doors offer added shading. The interior features lighting extension rafter covers, allowing low-voltage downlights to create a cosy evening atmosphere.

The high-performance large modern glass extension with an ultra-minimalist final finish brings an abundance of natural daylight into this living space. It has also generated a greater connection with the beautifully landscaped garden. With stunning features throughout, it has become a natural centrepiece of the home, creating a peaceful and naturally lit room, perfect after a relaxing swim.

The floor-to-ceiling door system and glass roof allow natural light to flood this new modern extension, creating a light, airy living space that has inspired a new central hub for this family to enjoy spending time at home again.

This modern glass extension, also known as a Wintergarden, is a German name for bespoke glass rooms. It offers many health and well-being benefits, such as abundant natural light and a greater connection with the outdoors. It augments the sense of luminosity and spaciousness within the interior.

Frameless glass box extensions and modern conservatories are popular house extensions for homeowners seeking to add more space. The trend towards transparency is growing. Using large glass panels and structural glass allows for a nearly complete see-through effect in building construction.
