A traditional 1900s red brick Edwardian property was given a stunning makeover with a large rear extension and sleek Solarlux SL81 bi-folding doors.
The client wanted to create a large, yet sociable living and kitchen area at the back of their home and set about designing a large scale rear extension that would span the entire width of their property.
The exterior walls of the new extension were specified in red brick to blend with the brickwork of the existing house. The extension also featured a slate roof and two large glazed gables to add to its visual impact, whilst also complementing the gable on the original building. The extensive glazing brings a contemporary feel to the extension and allows natural daylight to flood into the new extension.
Choosing high quality, tested products was essential to the client and they finally opted for Solarlux SL81 bi-folding doors for the two large openings. They were drawn to the square profile of the SL81, which created a clean external finish on the doors. The couple were also impressed with the high thermal performance of the doors which can achieve a U Value of up to 1.00 W/m2K.
Because there was a slight step down from the house to the patio level, the client also chose a fully weathered rebated threshold with a contemporary aluminium pressed sill to finish the look of the bi-fold doors.
