Our client was looking to link a new rear extension with the existing house by putting a contemporary glass extension to square off the space. This involved an intricate design with the lean-to roof joining the gable roof to the side. After much discussion about doing this in glass it was agreed that the most sensible solution was to extend a tile hip to meet the new roof and create a clear divide between the new and the old.
Our client was keen on the Solarlux Wintergarden in Caversham, Reading because it provided a solution from one manufacturer with the roof and bifold doors all from Solarlux.
The design for this contemporary glazed extension included a motorised roof vent for high level ventilation, which is very useful from the kitchen.
Solarlux SL81 Bi-Folding Doors were installed to both the left and front elevations allowing this contemporary glazed extension to be completely opened up on warm days. Triple glazing was chosen to help keep the warmth in the open space during the colder times of the year. Lastly, Active Glazing to the roof provides constant protection to solar gain allowing for all year round comfort, whatever the weather!
A rebated threshold was used on the Solarlux SL81 Bi-Folding Doors to allow for a fully weathered system with high performance weather rating. The external patio level was raised to the base of the threshold so provide a minimal step from inside to out.
