A sleek glazed extension has helped to merge the inside and outside at a stunning Victorian vicarage in Henley-on-Thames.
The owners wanted their home to connect with their garden and bring more light into their new open plan living area but were very keen to preserve the character of their period property.
The client discussed their needs with the designers at Thames Valley Windows and finally settled on a Solarlux Wintergarden in Henley on Thames glazed bay extension on the left hand side of their property, which was carefully proportioned to avoid dominating the rear of the building. Finished in classic grey aluminium, it contrasts with the period red brick exterior and brings a contemporary feel to the vicarage. For consistency and aesthetics, the Wintergarden was styled to mirror the original glass canopy to the right hand side of the property.
The expanse of glazing has enabled the owners to make the most of their large open plan living, kitchen and dining area and enjoy the views of their lovely walled garden throughout the year.
Impressed with the solid engineering detail of the Solarlux Wintergarden in Henley on Thames, the couple liked the fact that it did not require any additional supports above the bi-folding doors. This meant that the sightlines of the extension are very neat, allowing it to blend into the existing roofline for a sympathetic finish.
Bi-folding doors open up across the Wintergarden and merge the property with the outside space. A rebated weathered threshold was also installed to seamlessly join to the steps leading to a newly laid patio and lawn.
