This traditional front door we recently installed has given this charming and characterful Period Victorian Villa in Farnborough a distinctive, authentic, period appearance with kerb appeal.

The family home is located on a quiet and peaceful residential road in the desirable South Farnborough conservation area, where many of the properties benefit from the original Victorian features such as bay windows, high-pitched roofs and decorative brickwork with a mixture of casement and sash windows.

The Farnborough homeowners had lived in the detached property for many years and, over the years, had worked hard to retain all period features to retain the history and charm of the property. The existing wooden front door was particularly weathered and no longer energy efficient. So they were looking to replace it with a traditional style door that offered modern 21st-century performance and security with low maintenance.

At the heart of this project was period authenticity, so when the clients contacted Thames Valley Windows, they had already seen the timber alternative front door they wanted. At the showroom appointment, George guided the Fanrborough homeowners through the design, manufacturing, survey and installation process. Having entrusted us with their home improvement project, they decided to proceed with the timber alternative Ballingdon door from The English Door Company.

Ballingdon door is a popular and timeless traditional door style by The English Door Company; the composite entrance door blends traditional and modern designs to satisfy the requirements of being in a conservation area.

For the inside, they chose white to match the period interior decor and provide a light and bright ambience to the hallway. They chose a traditional bull ring door knocker, letterbox, and escutcheon plate finger pull thumb turn lock for the door hardware with a polished chrome finish.

The result is stunning; the dark grey traditional front door is beautifully finished with authentic features of the Victorian era, preserves the period’s true character, and complements the dark grey window cills and white frames of the sliding sash windows. It adds kerb appeal and a quintessentially English feel to the Farnborough property.
