Sliding Sash Windows are a distinct feature of any Victorian property but are also very popular in luxury modern developments. However, the sliding sash window is the hardest of all window styles to replicate in a maintenance free-material, which is why you see so many poor attempts.
True to the ethos of Thames Valley Windows, our sliding sash windows are as close to the real thing as you will get and without any of the inherent problems of the original frames. All of our options are designed to include traditional features whilst incorporating modern operation, technology and energy efficiency. Available in all material options including uPVC, timber and timber-alternative, we have a sliding sash window to suit any home.
Our range offers a large number of feature options from authentic sash horns, deep bottom rails, traditional 22mm glazing bars and a full range of chrome or gold furniture including sash lifts, ‘D’ handles and ring pulls. With energy efficient double glazing or triple glazing, our sliding sash windows are ‘A’ rated and Secure by Design.
The installation of a sliding sash window is as important as the style and appearance. Traditional Victorian windows are fitted from the inside the property, set deep into the brick reveals. All of our period sliding sash window installations involve the full removal of the existing box sash to ensure the best possible finish with traditional sightlines. We also remove all the interior timber mouldings. After installing our new replicas we fit new traditional architrave and liners in either timber or MDF so they can be painted or stained. The base of the frame is designed to fit straight down onto your existing stone sills or onto a new timber or timber alternative sill.
Our uPVC sliding sash window is available in a satin white finish and a full range of woodgrain colour options. They use a spring balanced operation with functions such as tilt-in for ease of cleaning. The window has a soft ovolo detail and replicates many features of a true timber sash window with none of the downsides. Simple but beautifully effective.
The timber-alternative sliding sash window is an evolution in synthetic materials. Hand crafted with butt joints to the sash, a delicate ovolo detail to the frame and finished with a matt finish painted foil available in a range of colours. This window offers all of the benefits of maintenance-free uPVC with many of the traditional features of a wooden window.
Our authentic timber sliding sash windows are made with fully engineered timber (see our blog ‘What is the Difference Between Solid Timber and Engineered Timber?‘), in either softwood or hardwood and factory finished (see our blog ‘What is the Benefit of a Factory Finished Timber Window?‘) for ultimate longevity. We can offer traditional cords and weights for the true period look or modern spring balanced. As an additional option, our spring balanced window is available with a neat box cover to completely conceal the spring to be more in keeping with traditional aesthetics. Profile options include a simple square line design as standard with options for a softer putty-line external detail, both with a full ovolo detail to the inside frame.
Our full range of sliding sash windows is available to see at our main showroom and you can also discuss the many options available with one of our experienced Designers.
