Two sets of stunning bespoke aluminium bifold doors and fixed windows transformed a stunning garden studio in Cold Ash, Berkshire.
Customer retention is important to us. It had been five years since our clients purchased Evolution timber alternative windows from us! We were thrilled that they chose to return to us for the glazing to their Garden studio.
The Architects Orange key were commissioned to design an innovative energy-efficient garden studio for our clients. They wanted a contemporary space to function as an art studio and games room. The garden building also includes an entrance hall, gymnasium and a guest bedroom with en-suite shower.
They produced a detailed set of drawings, elevations and floor plans including information for the bifold doors and roof lights. Initially, they included a sleek and minimal glass to glass connection of the roof lights and fixed windows.
After a meeting with our managing director/designer, they decided on Atlas structural aluminium flat glazed roof light system.
One of the main considerations for the build was glazing. These would not only provide the wow factor to the external of the garden building but also maximise the flow of natural light entering the new living spaces.
Large areas of double glazing were required with a sleek, frameless appearance. The bespoke Solarlux SL60e bi-folding doors and fixed windows provide a continuous flow of natural light for the length of the garden studio and an impressive minimalist floor to ceiling glazing system which blends in with its surroundings.
U-Values were essential to achieve the required energy performance. Thames Valley Windows was able to provide high-performance Climaguard glazing. This is a soft coat, dual stock Low-E (low emissivity) glass that offers the highest level of thermal insulation, transparency, and solar heat gain perfect for energy conservation.
We worked closely with the homeowners, architects and builders offering a professional service, to ensure the installation of the bifold doors and roof lights ran to schedule.
The games room sit behind a four-panel bi-folding door and four fixed windows while the art studio is bathed in natural light thanks to the vast six-meter bifold door system, two large fixed windows and two flat roof lights.
The Atlas structural aluminium flat glazed roof light system is finished in RAL 7016 matt grey on the exterior and standard white on the interior. All of the bi-folding doors and fixed frames are finished in metallic DB703 grey on both the interior and exterior.
In the guest bedroom, we installed Halo flush casement windows, finished in dual colours with anthracite grey grain on the outside and white grain in the inside.
The contemporary design of the garden studio contrasts with the traditional features of the family home. At the same time, the neutral colours’ and soft greys used internally to complement the dark grey bi-fold doors.
The use of high-quality products and bespoke finishes were an integral aspect of the project throughout. This was particularly true of the bifold doors and roof lights, which have proved a significant feature of the garden room and create a visual flow from the inside to the garden.
The result is aesthetically impressive but also highly efficient, and the homeowners can now enjoy their garden room for many years to come while benefiting from a low energy garden room.
