Heritage-inspired Pebble grey uPVC sliding sash windows are part of a large-scale pub renovation project in the Reading.

The Star Inn is a period property, built-in 1837 and was a village pub to residents before Greene King sold it in 2018 to our Reading client. The plans where to convert part of the ground floor to a retail unit for an Italian deli/cafe and for the remainder of the property to be converted into two residential properties one of which would be their home.

Here at Thames Valley Windows, we love a challenge and enjoy nothing more than being involved in a new build or renovation project that’s looking for something a little different. So when our clients contacted us online asking us to design and install a range of glazing products for a pub renovation in Pangbourne, we were delighted to assist.

As part of this pub renovation, we also installed black aluminium Heritage French doors to the rear of the property which created a stunning focal point in the open plan living area, while maximising the natural sunlight throughout the home.

Being a Victorian property, situated in an idyllic setting in the beautiful village of Pangbourne any replacement windows and doors needed to be in keeping with the buildings original heritage and era.

Part of the brief was to replace the original timber single glazed sliding sash windows with modern energy-efficient windows with characteristics from yesteryear, excellent thermal efficiency and soundproofing to help keep the sound from outside to a minimum.

After a one to one consultation with our designer Ray, our Reading clients liked the look of our timber alternative vertical sliding sash windows from the Genesis range. This uPVC range of sliding sash windows is authentic in every detail to replicate the look and style of traditional timber sash windows and is the perfect option to maintain the existing aesthetic of the building.

They chose to finish the uPVC sliding sash windows in a classic period colour of pebble grey on the exterior and white wood grain on the interior, the finishing touch is the chrome period furniture for a touch of authentic charm.

The pebble grey uPVC sliding sash windows boast many of the original features with a deep bottom rail slim central rail, run-through sash horns, realistic woodgrain finish and timber-look joints.

The installation needed to run to time and fit into the tight build schedule, so we worked with the builders and owners to ensure careful planning was followed as the windows and doors were required at different stages of the renovation.

Our skilled installers fitted the pebble grey uPVC sliding sash windows taking care and attention to those all-important period features, which included architrave and window sills.

Our Reading clients wanted to achieve a contemporary interior décor with a touch of period charm, and the pebble grey sliding sash windows harmonise wonderfully with a vintage colour scheme and retro and modern furnishings.

This renovation project has completely transformed the internal layout and external aesthetics of the former pub. This has included an impressive minimalist roof lantern floor which has proved a modern feature in the open plan living area flooding the room with natural daylight. Whilst refreshingly contemporary inside, the exterior maintains the original period facade that remains in character to the building and the local surroundings and compliant with all architectural and planning requirements.
